Kitten on Windows

Installing Kitten

Get the latest stable build from the download page. Run Kitten-Setup-x86_64.exe (or Kitten-Setup-aarch64.exe on ARM64) and follow the installer. It installs to Program Files\Kitten and adds a Start menu entry.

For the preview build, pick Preview on the download page, or see the preview releases.

First Launch

The installer is not signed yet, so your browser and Windows may both warn about it.

If your browser blocks the download, open its downloads list with Ctrl+J:

  • Edge: point at the installer, click … → Keep, then Show more → Keep anyway
  • Chrome: click Keep (or Download suspicious file)

When you run the installer, Windows SmartScreen may show Windows protected your PC:

  1. Click More info
  2. Check that the app is Kitten-Setup-x86_64.exe (or Kitten-Setup-aarch64.exe)
  3. Click Run anyway

Uninstall

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, search for Kitten, and click Uninstall.

Collections you synced to a git remote stay on that remote.

Troubleshooting

Kitten fails to start or shows a blank window

  • Update your GPU drivers from your GPU vendor (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA or Qualcomm).
  • Make sure hardware acceleration is not blocked by third-party software.

Kitten fails to open or runs slowly

Kitten renders with DirectX 11 and needs a compatible GPU. To check what your GPU supports, run:

dxdiag

The DirectX version is listed under System → System Information → DirectX Version.

Inside a virtual machine, Kitten uses the emulated adapter your VM provides. It works, but performance may be lower.
