Privacy and Telemetry
Kitten is local-first. Your collections, environments, requests and responses stay on your machine. There is no Kitten account, and Kitten does not collect usage analytics.
Crash Reports
The only diagnostics Kitten sends are crash reports, and you can turn them off.
When Kitten crashes, it saves a crash report on your machine. On the next launch it sends that report so we can fix the bug. A report holds the technical details of the crash, along with Kitten's version and release channel. Secrets, URLs and email addresses are masked out of the error message before it is sent. It never includes your requests, responses, headers or collections.
Reports are deleted once they are sent. Reports older than 30 days are deleted without being sent.
Turn Off Telemetry
Open Settings → Privacy and turn off Telemetry Diagnostics. Crash reports then stay on your machine and are never sent.
When Kitten Goes Online
Kitten only connects to the internet for these:
- Requests you send. Kitten talks straight to your API, with nothing in between.
- Update checks. Kitten asks for the latest release at startup and then every hour. The check sends your operating system and architecture, nothing else.
- Themes. Kitten reaches Zed's extension gallery only when you open it to browse or install a theme.
- Sync and Git. Kitten pushes and pulls only with the
gitremotes you set up. See Sync and Collection Git. - Commit avatars. The Git panel shows commit authors' avatars. To load them it sends the author's email address to your
githost or an avatar service such as Gravatar. Turn off Show Avatars under Settings → Git to stop this. - Feedback. Only when you choose to send it.
